Have you ever had a friend that falls head over heels in love.
Like soppy, it’d be cute if it wasn’t plastered over your social media for 17 ‘snuggle selfies’ a day kind of in love. Seems perfect when they’re starting out. You’re happy for them You drift apart a little, as often does when a mate gets into what seems like it may be a serious long term thing, over a short term fling. When you properly catch up months later though, it’s evident that the perfect blossoming romance hasn’t evolved into all that was advertised. Call it an improper match, crossed wires, or one of them being a bit of a dick But relationships often turn a little sour as they develop. Snarky comments, underhand remarks, and “little white lies” that escalate week after week Thing is- people get stuck.

In principle, the process of losing the fat stored around your stomach, butt, thighs or wherever else it’s irking you, isn’t a complex one
Consume fewer calories than your body requires for energy, and you’ll begin sourcing your fuel from those body fat stores in order to function, therefore reducing them in size Those pouches and handles are simply stored energy, after all (and we wouldn't actually want to lose all of them, that’d cause a whole other host of issues!) Why then, if it’s so simple, do the vast majority of people that go “on a diet”, fail? Why is it that whilst Personal Training in Milton Keynes and online, we see so many men and women coming in that have tried so many different approaches, only to feel like “dieting doesn’t work”? And how, can we stop that trend, and kickstart a transformation that lasts a lifetime, rather than results in a short lived drop and a lifelong disdain for kale? 2020 has been a disruptive year to say the least.
It has, in one fell swoop, derailed entire industries, steadfast institutions and sent the global economy into disarray So if your health and fitness goals have taken a bit of a backseat thus far? Don’t be so hard on yourself- there’s a bigger picture at play here At the time of writing, we're two weeks away from gyms reopening in the UK (including the very exciting relaunch of our Personal Training Studio in Milton Keynes). Which means there’s a lot of people squeezing themselves into lycra leggings, brushing the dust off their gym bag, and beginning their fitness journey once more The thing is though? Where do you start? Here at the Armoury we’re big fans of calorie counting
It’s akin to taking the time to learn and track your finances- if you aren’t willing to sit down and look at your money coming in (calories) and bills going out (expenditure) to forecast your bank balance (weight), then you’ll often end up struggling to afford that holiday you were meant to be saving for, or having to buy industrial sized containers of lube to assist in the effort of getting into the jeans that were once a perfect fit Yes, if we look at this purely from a logical perspective, tracking calories makes sense Things is though, humans? Aren’t always logical Sweat rolling down your nose and falling into a depressingly large pool in front of you, the sound of your unreasonably loud heartbeat in your ears, and then the one sentence you’d rather never hear…
“Time to finish off with some burpees” You struggle up to your feet. Well, you think- “at least it’s good for me”… Or is it? If all that was required was information to drop body fat and build muscle, then everyone would be walking around with their dream physique, absentmindedly bumping into each other as we hurriedly scan from shiny object to shiny object in a never-ending quest to catch a glimpse of our own reflection
However despite the fact there’s more practical advice on getting movie-star jacked at our fingertips than ever before? More and more people are struggling with their weight, fitness, and confidence levels Because practically speaking? You could summarise the steps for a lean physique in a single sentence: Every few months, Netflix will drop a banger of a nutrition doc, and the whole fitness industry takes a collective intake of breath (at least, the educated coaches do. The more dogmatic trainers of the world? Cross their fingers that the latest flick will back up their current beliefs, and will frantically poke holes if it doesn’t)
Knowing what to do in the gym is confusing
Whether you’re an overly-calloused pro, or it’s your first time training, it can still be a daunting prospect to know what workout programme to follow, class to join, or personal trainer to hire it’s somewhat similar to the feeling I get when something goes wrong with my car- I tend to just pick the closest garage that doesn’t have an awful star rating (or ask my mates where they go), then I’m entirely at the mercy of the mechanic’s knowledge when I rock up (maybe I just need oil, maybe I’ve been driving Flintstone-style without an engine for the last few months, I’m really none-the-wiser) |
